Style Guide: Finding the Right Everyday Lip Shade and How to Style It

Lipsticks were not made for special occasions alone. Easily incorporate your favorite shades of nude and pink into your everyday look with our quick and handy set of lip-and-outfit combos.

Get casual and cool with shades of nude

The nude lip has always been a well-loved staple. While it may not be too glowy or striking, it naturally gives off a fresh and polished look, especially when done right. Some veer away from nudes because of the fear of looking washed out or pale, but the key is to find the proper shade of nude for your skin tone and undertone.
Looking into skin tones: moreans may want to venture nude shades that have a peachy and warm undertone to achieve that no-makeup makeup look. Darker shades, like your milk or dark chocolate nudes also look flattering. For girls with lighter skin tones, a hint of pink is always the way to go. Never go for a nude that matches your skin tone exactly or any nude shade that's lighter than your natural lip color, though! Doing so may make you look pale or sickly.
If the quest of finding the perfect shade of nude seems daunting, especially to those who are still starting to dabble into makeup, Careline's Matte Liquid Lipstick in Gotta Go the most flattering nude across skin tones.

Nude lips do the trick in balancing out an eye-catching outfit. We best recommend it for warm-colored outfits, especially when you're in the mood for warmer nude lip shades and dressier makeup. If you're not one to go for much color, a statement piece like an asymmetrical top or something with puffed sleeves work just as well.

For something more laid back, go for a shade nearest to your natural lip color to make sure your makeup is on the same level as your look. Something as simple as a full set of brows, a touch of color on your cheeks, topped with a nude lip can already make your whole ensemble look more polished and ready to take on whatever.

Exude dainty and femme with the right shade of pink

Though we feel nudes and browns are best for complementing outfits, pinks can go either way. A natural pink lip can do great in highlighting your features, while a bold pink lip can be an eye-catching statement. Like nudes, however, the perfect pink lip can vary from person to person, depending on your skin tone and undertone.
For those feminine and dainty days, soft pink shades are the best. Baby pink hues are best for those with light skin tones, while a deeper nude pink look amazing on medium and deep skin tones.

If you want to make a statement, a brighter pink will do the trick — still very feminine, but with a layer of boldness to it. For medium and deep skin tones, venturing pinks that have a hint of purple or magenta undertones make for a very flattering look.

But when it comes to dressing pink lipstick for everyday, sticking to the softer and more subtle shades of pink can best achieve that no-fail sweet, girly charm.

Needless to say, these soft pinks go with every pastel outfit you have in your arsenal. To go full on dainty and feminine, pair your pink lip shades with romantic pieces: like a puffed-sleeved top, something with ruffles, lace, ruches, or smocking. If you're feeling a bit playful and want to go for a bolder and richer shade of pink (like Careline's Pop Matte Liquid Lippie), you can inject some of your floral and more colorful pieces into the mix to add a layer of elegance and flair.

For the more casual and laid back pieces in your wardrobe, cap it off with a nude pink lip for a more effortless, your-lips-but-better feel — just like Shaina (right), in Careline's Matte Liquid Lipstick in Normcore. Bold and loud pink lip shades work for these, too, if you want to make a statement!
Pink lips with red undertones are our personal fave because of how it gives a fresh spin on the classic red lippie — it's subtle, but stunning, nonetheless. This is a great pick if you want to add some spice to your basics. What we have on Dahna (left) is the metallic version of it: Careline's Livewire Melted Metallic Liquid Lippie. Same subtle red lip, but the added glimmer and shine add oomph to her Ivory Kendra Cropped Sweater.
